Indira Gandhi International Airport

Commissioned by the Delhi International Airport, the The Canyon Wall of Mudras Installation features copper disks and fiberglass sculptures of Indian Classical dance and yogic hand gestures, while the Surya Namaskar Installation illustrates the 12 positions of the yogic Sun Salutation, both celebrating India's rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

These installations honor India's cultural heritage, specifically the art of Indian classical dance and yoga, which are deeply embedded in Indian traditions.

The Canyon Wall of Mudras

The hand postures, or the Mudra was inspired by the hand gestures used in Indian classical dance and yoga practices. The initial research involved the study of traditional renditions in sculpture. Over 400 craftsmen from Jaipur, Delhi, Moradabad, and Jodhpur worked on the project.

Materials used included steel, aluminum, and fiberglass. The massive hand sculptures, each over 10 feet tall, were created in 24 different mudras (hand positions). Additionally, 873 copper disks, each 1 meter in diameter, were produced.

Surya Namaskaar

The practice of surya namaskar, or sun salutation, is a revered sequence of yoga postures that harmonizes body and mind by drawing energy from the sun. In vedic tradition, the sun symbolizes consciousness and divine energy, which is why it has been a central element of daily worship in Indian culture for centuries.
