Rooted in both restraint and indulgence, the design evokes a quiet sense of luxury. Each suite is deliberately compact, yet richly layered—inviting guests into spaces where architectural simplicity meets ornamental detailing.

A seamless blend of legacy and innovation

Inspired by the life of a desert trader—one who travels light but lives richly—the design of Thar Apartments explores the quiet tension between minimalism and ornate craftsmanship. Understated materials such as polished stone and earthy textures form the backdrop for intricate detailing in textiles, furniture, and décor. Rich ajrak patterns and terravert hues infuse the spaces with a sense of warmth, echoing the aesthetic legacy of ancient trade routes.

At its core, the architecture remains inward-looking—crafted to create a cocoon of privacy and reflection. Internal courtyards, skylights, and arched thresholds frame the outside world with intention and mystery, offering solitude without disconnect. More than an extension of Suryagarh, Thar Apartments becomes an immersive retreat—reimagining the trader’s journey through the lens of modern hospitality. At the entrance to each suite lies a courtyard—a contemporary interpretation of the traditional caravanserai. These open-to-sky transitional spaces, planted with indigenous flora and softly illuminated with ambient lighting, create a quiet pause between the desert and the dwelling, allowing air and light to move freely through the architecture.

Thoughtfully curated with soft furnishings, handcrafted textiles, layered textures, and ornamental accents, the interiors reflect Rajasthan’s rich artistic traditions, imbuing the spaces with warmth, culture, and care.

TV Cabinet by AKFD

A bespoke TV cabinet in mango wood, accented with fabric panels, anchors the space with understated grandeur. The fabric - patterned with forest-inspired flora and fauna - offers a refreshing counterpoint to the desert landscape, bringing softness, texture, and a touch of nature indoors. Blending craftsmanship with storytelling, the piece elevates utility into a refined design statement.

Bathrooms

Envisioned as spaces of relaxation and rejuvenation, the bathrooms extend the property’s tactile, earthy elegance, where materiality and form echo the overarching design language.

A custom-designed copper bathtub by AKFD serves as the sculptural centerpiece, embodying raw luxury and artisanal craftsmanship. The walls, finished in a subtly textured clay surface, lend warmth and a natural softness that gently diffuses light. Beneath, sleek nano-topped flooring introduces a refined contemporary edge, creating a balanced dialogue between rustic character and modern sophistication.

Skylights become a defining feature within these spaces, inviting natural light into areas often overlooked. Thoughtfully positioned above, they establish an intimate connection with the sky, casting a soft, diffused glow across sandstone surfaces and handcrafted ceramic tiles.
